Britfield & the Rise of the Lion by C. R. Stewart

If you have not read Book 1, Britfield & the Lost Coin, then stop right here and do NOT read further as you will encounter spoilers!!

After a harrowing escape from the clutches of the nefarious guardians criminals that were running the orphanage, Tom and Sarah are now residing at a monastery where monks have taken them in.  What at first seemed a kindness, has become yet another prison as the children are forced to work and not allowed to leave the abbey. They soon begin plotting yet another escape. Thankfully one of the monks is sympathetic to their desire to continue their mission in trying to find Tom's family.

So begins the next chapter in their harrowing adventures. The two friends soon reunite with Oliver, the college student who had helped them in book 1. But when it turns out that Oliver's uncle is one of those intent on stopping Tom by any means, things get very complicated--and dangerous.

Book 2 is full of intrigue, betrayal, gunfire (lots of gunfire), explosives, kidnapping and more twists and turns than a corn maze.  Loyalties are tested, courage is forged, and readers will be on the edge of their seats as Tom gets closer to finding out the truth about his past and possible future (as long as he lives to see it!).

This is an exceptional series for middle-grade readers but will be enjoyed by adults as well. Grab copies of books 1 & 2 and stay tuned for the continuation of the Britfield adventures in book 3! You can read the first two chapters of the first book on the author's website. While there, be sure to check out all the great information about characters and locations within the series.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of Britfield & the Rise of the Lion from Devonfield Publishing for the purpose of review. No other compensation was received.
