The Body Under the Bridge

Detective turned Anglican Priest, Father Gilbert seems to attract mystery. In The Body Under the Bridge, Gilbert is called to help calm a man threatening to jump from the tower of his church. He valiantly tries to talk the man down but to no avail.  The man is in anguish and gives Father Gilbert what appears to be an ancient medallion before plunging to his death.  Or what appeared to be his death. There is no evidence of his body and no witnesses. So how can Father Gilbert explain the medallion he was given?

In the meantime, local excavation efforts yield the discovery of a 200 year old body, which reignites a feud between two families in Father Gilbert's parish. The man who killed himself was part of the excavation and unsettling questions are raised about how these two deaths 200 years apart may be connected. As Father Gilbert helps out with the investigation, it isn't clear whether the battle is against flesh and blood or the powers of darkness.  And soon, he's fighting for his own life.

This was definitely a creepy read. While I consider McCusker's book a pretty wholesome read, I would recommend it for high school and above. The book delves into some mature topics and explores the grim reality of demonic forces. For those interested in historical mysteries and secret societies, The Body Under the Bridge will get your heart racing until the final dramatic conclusion.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of The Body Under the Bridge from Kregel Publications for the purpose of review.
